Spark Architecture is an architectural design studio founded in mid-2022. Our team consist of experience architectural designers who have extensive experience across different fields in New Zealand.
We specialise in residential and commercial design from small to medium scale. We work in close collaboration with planners, engineers, project managers and other consultants to deliver results.
We are solution focused. Our goal is to design high performance architecture that is functional, beautiful and financially viable for developers and residents.

Bobby Zhao
Senior Designer

Bobby is an Architecture Designer and has worked on various projects, ranging from residential to retail, education and commercial in NZ and overseas. Responsibilities undertaking varies for each project either from preparing presentation during concept design right up to detailed documentation drawings. Responsible, creative, and proactive professional with excellent time management skills and ability to manage teams, meeting deadlines, and delivering quality documentation with proficiency.
Bobby has been in charge of many high-density residential houses’ development in China. Since 2015 working in New Zealand, his knowledge and experience is keeping on increasing. With many years work for LBP registered companies and Architects as Architectural designer Technician, Bobby became the project lead of the Kainga Ora Multiproof residential projects. His good temper and work skills make him like a glue to band the team and ensure the projects move forward smoothly.
Rei Chen
Senior Designer

With over 10 years’ working experience in New Zealand, Rei brings her extensive skills in both residential and commercial design to Spark Architecture. Prior joining the team, she has worked on various projects including residential new builds & renovation, multi-unit housing, as well as hospitality and retirement villages.
Rei is passionate about creating innovative solutions to problems and seeks inspiration in everyday life. Highly proficient in Revit Architecture, Rei strives for streamline BIM workflow and high-quality documentations.
As a Licensed Building Practitioner, Rei specialises in the technical side of the project and make sure the development is built to the correct spec.


Han Jiang

“Seeing a concept developed & built is the motivation to bring his passion into architecture.” is always his perspective on architecture. Han was always committed to delivering innovative design ideas to projects. His work has included several large mixed-use, retail & commercial projects, high school design, office renovations, apartments, and residential developments. Integrating and utilising his invaluable experience across multiple projects, he is now interested in exploring the urban and residential development opportunities and possibilities in the future of Auckland.
Han always brings enthusiasm to work with the team members. A good team relationship always ensures a better design outcome, which will make our jobs more enjoyable. Music playing is a must to maintain a dynamic and active office environment.
Emily Zhong
Intermediate Architectural Designer

Emily is a highly skilled Architecture Designer with over six years of experience in New Zealand, specializing in residential and master planning projects. She began her career at one of New Zealand’s leading multidisciplinary land development consultancies, where she honed her expertise in design and documentation skills. A notable highlight of her career includes leading the successful delivery of a 107-lot subdivision in Karaka, Auckland, which was completed on schedule and within a stringent budget.
Emily is known for her strong sense of responsibility, exceptional attention to detail, and ability to adapt quickly to new challenges. She is proficient in Revit and Resource Consent process, ensuring regulatory compliance and smooth project execution.
Her exceptional time and budget management skills enable her to deliver high-quality outcomes consistently, even in fast-paced and complex project environments. With a passion for excellence and a commitment to achieving outstanding results.


Shelley Jiao

Shelley is a recent graduate with an honored Master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Auckland. She has a deep passion for design and committed to find novel and optimal solutions. Her solution design of waste spaces in her thesis has achieved high ranking mark in the final year of master degree. And Shelley is highly skilled in model making, which allows her to bring creative visions to life with precision and detail. Shelley thrives on challenges, whether they arise in her work or personal life, believing that every project presents an opportunity for growth and innovation.
Outside of architecture, she is an avid sports enthusiast, particularly enjoying skiing—the thrill of the slopes being a favorite pastime. She is excited to explore new opportunities in architecture and beyond, constantly pushing herself to new heights both professionally and personally.
Christina
Junior Landscape Designer

Christina is a specialist of botany and ecologies, graduated from Unitec. She can use her vision and skill in transforming the spaces of living areas, and in solving the real and serious environmental issues. She prepares to brings balance of technology, art and design, in order to engage in a broad range of environmental design projects. These can involve urban design, transportation infrastructure, waterfronts and resorts, coastal, estuarine and in-land ecologies, and creating engaging and vibrant community and public spaces.
Apart from Landscape, Christina is also learning architectural knowledge and skills, gaining more experience to help her understand better landscape design. She is excited to expand our business in landscape field.


Amy Zhang
Architecture Designer Intern
As a graduate architecture designer, she is eager to learn and grow through real-world projects, contribute to the advancement of the architecture industry and collaborate with other professionals to create inspiring spaces.
She faces challenges and difficulties with a positive and optimistic attitude. She believes that space is warm and can be used for dialogue, listening, respect, communication, and empathetic design. This is her original intention. She doesn’t like to be defined, she makes the impossible possible.
She has an adorable daughter. In her spare time, she loves to take her daughter to hike and feel nature. She also likes to go shopping occasionally.
